About

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the Seoul National University focusing on Human-Computer Interaction and User Experience. My research interests lie in data-driven behavior analysis and user modeling. Currently, I am finishing up my thesis (expected graduation Aug. 2022) on identifying and collecting quantifiable behavior data to assist in understanding of user behaviors. As a UX researcher, I am passionate about using data-driven insights to understand users, improve products to support their needs, and ultimately create an efficient and elevated experience.

Outside of work, my hobbies include cooking, mobile filmmaking, and ultimate (flying disc sport), which I play competitively. I have had the priveledge to represent my country as a member of the Korea national team for various Asia-Oceania and Worlds events.

Projects

Project "Prehension"

Lab-led Project with Co-living Space “ShareOne Sillim”; Technical Lead; Sep. 2020 – Dec. 2020

: Designing, implementing, and deploying a non-intrusive people counter for communal spaces within ShareOne Sillim, a women-only co-living space located in Seoul. The project utilized usage data of the communal spaces to provide real-time crowdedness information via a web app and physical dashboard, accessible in various locations within the co-living space. The service also utilized machine learning to predict hourly crowdedness levels of each communal space for each day of the week.

Culture Concierge & Preference Collection

Project with the Korea Creative Contents Agency; Project Manager; May. 2018 – Dec. 2020

: Developing a smart speaker service that curates events in various domains such as, but not limited to, classical music, musicals, plays, and concerts. The project included user research on cultural event consumption, smart speaker (agent) usage. Parallel to the user research, individual preference collection on cultural event types were conducted to supplement event recommendation to users. Successful deployment on Google Actions under the name of “ClassicMate”, a classical music curation service with event recommendations.

Television Audio Experience

Project with Samsung Electronics; Project Manager; Mar. 2017 – Dec. 2017

: Mixed methods user research on investigating user behavior in household television watching. Identifying points of interests in user behaviors and identifying user satisfaction while watching television. Collecting, processing, and analyzing various log data from the TV, remote controller, bluetooth trackers, and deploying chatbots for in-situ contextual information collection. Conducting pre-/post-study user interviews. Creating design guidelines for product improvement.

News Big Data - User Participatory Services

Project with the Korea Press Foundation; Project Member; May 2016 – Dec. 2016

: Analysis of news quotes from press releases, understanding how users obtain news and information, and suggesting a new interface and service where users can easily participate in writing well-founded news articles with official quotes and sources.
